Press On Nail Application Guide (and Why Each Step Matters)
A good application is the difference between nails that last a day and nails that last over a week.
Every step has a purpose.
Skipping even one can lead to lifting, popping off, or reduced wear time.
Step 1: Push back your cuticles
Use a cuticle pusher to gently push back the skin around your nail.
Why it matters:
If glue touches your skin instead of your nail plate, the bond will not hold properly. Having the cuticles pushed back will also make the press ons look more natural & clean.
Avoid:
Cutting aggressively or using sharp tools if you are not trained, it can easily cause damage! If you'd like to try and remove excess cuticles, we recommend using a cuticle remover the day before application (doing this immediately before application can add moisture to the nail and cause lifting).
Step 2: Lightly buff the nail surface
Use a gentle buffer or 180 grit file to remove the natural shine from your nails.
Why it matters: This creates a slightly rough surface so the adhesive can grip better. When done gently it is completely safe! Your natural nails have 50-100+ layers, buffing removes only a few when done gently.
Avoid: Over buffing. You only need to remove the shine, not thin your nail! Be gentle and mindful while buffing the nail. Always buff in one direction and not in circular motions.
Step 3: Cleanse the nails
Use alcohol, nail cleanser, dehydrated or even a small amount of acetone to remove oils and dust.
Why it matters:
Natural oils are one of the biggest causes of lifting. Your nails should be rough and extremely dry with no shine.
Avoid:
Using water, cuticle oil or lotion right before application. Moisture can very easily affect adhesion!
Step 4: Apply your adhesive
Apply tabs, glue, or your chosen method evenly.
Why it matters:
Too little adhesive can lead to air bubbles and cause lifting. Too much can cause a mess! It can take a couple tries to perfect the amount needed for you personally.
Step 5: Apply the nail at an angle
Place the nail starting near the cuticle and press down toward the tip.
Hold firmly for 30 to 60 seconds.
Why it matters:
This helps avoid air pockets and creates a strong seal. It is important to hold firm and even pressure no matter what type of adhesive you use!
Step 7: Avoid water and pressure
Keep your nails dry and avoid heavy use & any chemicals for at least 1 to 2 hours. The best time to apply is right before bed to give your nails as long as possible before use!
Why it matters:
Adhesive needs time to fully set and strengthen! Even glue tabs do their best after a bit of time.

Final thoughts
Press on nails are only as good as the fit & application.
Taking a few extra minutes to prep properly will give you longer wear, a better look, and a more comfortable fit!
